The Chemise

The chemise or shift is the most basic part of any historical wardrobe. Shown here is a chemise inspired by the Italian styles. In period, the chemise would be bound across the top with bias tape. I offer both a historical version and a historically inspired version. The difference is more than cost - the historical version is available only in linen or a linen/cotton blend. It also is crafted similar to the extant chemises we still have today, using linen bias tape around the neckline and rolling each edge under to ensure no raw edges are seen anywhere on the chemise. The historically inspired one is simpler in cut and takes ribbons at the neckline and cuffs to create the gathered affect. It is available in cotton, linen, and a linen cotton blend. The edges are not rolled; however I have had one of this style that has lasted me for a good ten years. Choose which style you prefer here:
